Wade Porter (Stephen Dorff) a loving family man, has his home invaded months before him, and his fiance are set to be married. Wade ,in a act of self defense, attacked the burgaler with a baseball bat and accidently kills him. Wade is then arrested and sent to county prison. There other inmates start fights with him. After 96 days in county Wades lawer tells him that his best chance of early release is to plead a no contest. Wade pleads no contest to an ammended account of involuntary manslaughter and is thus sentenced to 3 years. Once in the jail wade is forced to fight for his life in gladiator type fights, staged by the guards.
